Tdap

At NIMVAX, we are a vaccine-only pharmacy certified to deliver a range of vaccines, including the Tdap vaccine.

What Is TDAP?

  • Tetanus affects the nerves and muscles, causing them to become stiff and painful, and it can cause significant health issues including muscle stiffness that makes it hard to open one’s mouth, swallow, or breathe.
  • Diphtheria is a highly contagious disease that causes flu-like symptoms, including sore throat, fever, and nausea. It can also cause heart failure, respiratory distress, or death.
  • Pertussis, often known as “whooping cough,” is a highly contagious disease that causes uncontrollable, violent coughing that makes it difficult to breathe. Pneumonia, convulsions, brain damage, or death can all be caused by pertussis in infants and young children. It can cause weight loss, bladder control problems, fainting, and rib fractures from severe coughing in teens and adults.

About TDAP Vaccines

Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis can all be prevented through the TDAP vaccination. Diphtheria and pertussis are transmissible diseases that may be passed from person to person. Tetanus is a toxin that enters the body via injuries or lacerations.
Thankfully, all of these diseases can be prevented through vaccinations and proper, safe medical treatment, and at NIMVAX, we’re here to provide you with the vaccines you need to help make our community safer.
Our staff of pharmacy experts at NIMVAX is prepared and ready to provide our patients with the greatest possible immunization experience. We’re here to educate you on the significance of vaccines and work to eliminate any vaccine concerns you may have. Simply put, no matter your needs, we can help.

About TDAP Side Effects

Most individuals experience no side effects when receiving the TDAP vaccine, but some may notice mild reactions, including headache, stomach ache, nausea, vomiting, fever, chills, redness or swelling around injection site, fatigue, or weakness. Although these side effects are uncommon, they are important to be aware of.

The TDAP vaccine has not been associated with severe side effects in children or adults who receive the vaccine. However, severe allergic reactions may occur in some cases. Although infrequent, these typically develop within two hours of receiving the injection and can include hives, facial swelling, difficulty breathing, vomiting , rapid heartbeat, or dizziness. Those who experience any of these symptoms following a TDAP vaccination should seek immediate medical attention to manage their health conditions appropriately.

You Should Not Get a TDAP Vaccine If:

  • You have had a severe allergic reaction to the vaccine or any of its components in the past.
  • You have had a coma, decreased level of consciousness, or prolonged seizures within 7 days after a previous dose of any pertussis vaccine (DTP, DTaP, or Tdap)
  • You have had an allergic reaction to previous doses of TDAP or did not finish your primary vaccination series because the side effects were too severe. If this is the case, it’s important to talk to your doctor about whether the vaccine is recommended for you

You Should Talk To Your Doctor About Getting a TDAP Vaccine If:

  • You have a history of seizures or brain injury.
  • You have a history of Guillain-Barre syndrome, a condition that causes muscle weakness and paralysis.
  • You have cancer, HIV/AIDS, or another disease that affects your immune system.

Please note that if you have not been vaccinated against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis before or if you’ve never received three doses of DTaP vaccine before, we will likely recommend an initial injection alongside one dose of the vaccine followed by booster shots at four weeks and six months after the first injection. Those who have already received the DTaP vaccine should still receive an additional vaccination booster shot at four weeks and six months after their first injection.
